Please let me know if you would like an Interest Drabble from me! I have three folks in the queue right now -- thanks for your patience friends!
also, my birthday is coming up and so I am wondering if any of you still buy albums, what great new album have you bought recently?
I am especially interested in females. I've come across some very fun fanmixes with songs on like Billie Piper's "Honey to the B" and things by Florence + the Machine.... and I absolutely love that song "going in for the kill" by La Roux who I see won a Grammy just this year! (Okay there was this awesome story by

Any recs along this vein would be greatly appreciated!
I also like Anya Marina, Ingrid Michaelson.... see, I have broader tastes than just Metallica, Ozzy and Led Zeppelin 24/7 (though the other day "over the hills and far away" came on when I was in the car and I had to sit in the car and hear it all the way through... and I was similarly mesmerized by "for whom the bell tolls" which really does just freaking ROCK. and I was rocking out to Rage Against the Machine today in the car and we had to keep fast forward past the bad words because my son was also in the car. :P )
I hope all you Americans are having a relaxing Memorial Day weekend!

Date: 2011-05-30 02:10 am (UTC)I just thought I'd pimp two fairly opposite but equally awesome artists : Basia Bulat and Robyn.
Basia is a folk singer with a beautiful voice and gorgeous lyrics. Two of my favourite songs of hers are Heart of My Own and Snakes and Ladders.
Robyn you've probably heard of, at least in the late 90s, but she's still an active (and amazing) artist. I particularly love Dancing on My Own and Cry When You Get Older.
Also, I put on Ingrid Michaelson while I was writing this, and she immediately brought the delightful Regina Spektor to mind. I've always loved Fidelity.
Anyway, sorry for the mega comment! It occurs to me that you might already be familiar with all of these artists as none of these are particularly recent releases, so my apologies if that's the case!

Date: 2011-05-30 02:16 am (UTC)I think I remember Basia. I'll have to look her up! I don't know Robyn at all.
I also love Regina Spektor. Anya Marina has a very similar voice... she sang one of the Doctor Sexy theme songs which I really like "Move You Around."
I've been listening to Honey for the Hive Queen in heavy rotation. I have really enjoyed it, so thanks so very much!!

Date: 2011-05-30 12:52 pm (UTC)Hari and I are really loving Adele right now, her voice reminds me of the women my mother introduced me to from the 60's. "Rolling in the Deep" is her single at the moment, but actually, all her stuff is fantastic. She has such a great voice.
I would also recommend Hayley Westenra, who is a bit more classically trained, but she does this vocal leap when she sings "Amazing Grace" that *still* gives me chills. She also does a great cover of "Wuthering Heights". Any of her albums are worth listening to. She's from NZ, and on her first album she did two songs in Maori, so naturally I am inclined to like her. ;-)

Date: 2011-05-30 01:06 pm (UTC)I hadn't heard of Hayley Westenra. I'll check her out! I'm classically trained myself, which unfortunately makes me critical. :P The Maori aspect makes me really excited!!
