I spent a week fighting the flu and now I'm mostly better.

Here is a drabble about something Sam loves. I'll be adding more drabbles to this page I hope!

~ meditation rug ~

After the fire, Sam had no clue how long Dean’s hunting trip was gonna take. The Moores went through her things and Sam stored what was left, what was singed, what was his. (John left lockers everywhere.)

Now, Sam’s gotten some of that life back. Art books, philosophy journals, crooked mugs with Jess’s initials scratched into the bottom, the meditation rug she embroidered with the sigils Sam compulsively marked around every door he’d ever slept behind. The rug smells a little like soot, but it’s soft against the bunker’s floor. Sam breathes deep and even, heart full of quiet gratitude.

I think we're supposed to keep adding drabbles to the same page, because spam!  but anyway I had time for a second one:

cut! this one's rated Adult :D )

Story Cubes

These are Rory's Story Cubes. They are very fun and you can play in different ways.  Today was a snow day so out came the cubes.

The above roll instantly told a Sherlock story, which I pared down into a drabble.

~~  Watched RTD's The Second Coming, starring Christopher Eccleston and Lesley Sharp (she played the possessed woman in "Midnight").  If you are a New Who fan, you NEED to see this movie asap.  Without giving anything away... Chris and Lesley were both mesmerizing in this story.  Chris's acting just bursts with intensity, and RTD was working out issues he absolutely revisited in his story arc with the Doctor.

~~ Still pondering the surreal work of Marc Platt.  Both Time's Crucible and Lungbarrow  planted extremely fruitful ideas in my head. Such crazy worldbuilding!! I love it.

~~ my Brown Pinstripe Suit arrived in the mail from ebay yesterday, and it fit!!!  I'm so excited.  Now I have to buy Converse.  :D :D :D   I really don't know why I love crossdressing so much.  I am IN NO WAY built like David Tennant.  i'm 5'1" and I probably outweigh him!  I love when Donna says " how are you so skinny -- this wouldn't fit a rat!"   Luckily my new jacket fits me across the shoulders and even the bust.  :D

This may seem an odd request, but if anyone feels like telling me what was off about my last piece, the Castiel is his own God drabble, I'd love to hear criticisms!

Please let me know if you would like an Interest Drabble from me!  I have three folks in the queue right now -- thanks for your patience friends!

also, my birthday is coming up and so I am wondering if any of you still buy albums, what great new album have you bought recently?

I am especially interested in females.   I've come across some very fun fanmixes with songs on like Billie Piper's "Honey to the B" and things by Florence + the Machine.... and I absolutely love that song "going in for the kill" by La Roux who I see won a Grammy just this year!    (Okay there was this awesome story by [livejournal.com profile] bree_black  that was a love affair in Heaven between Jo Harvelle and Madison, and it was called "Honey for the Hive Queen" and the fanmix that went along with it by [livejournal.com profile] lookturtles  has been incredibly enjoyable.  :D  )

Any recs along this vein would be greatly appreciated!

I also like Anya Marina,  Ingrid Michaelson.... see, I have broader tastes than just Metallica, Ozzy and Led Zeppelin 24/7 (though the other day "over the hills and far away" came on when I was in the car and I had to sit in the car and hear it all the way through... and I was similarly mesmerized by "for whom the bell tolls"  which really does just freaking ROCK.  and I was rocking out to Rage Against the Machine today in the car and we had to keep fast forward past the bad words because my son was also in the car.  :P )

I hope all you Americans are having a relaxing Memorial Day weekend!

I swiped a meme:

The FIRST FIVE PEOPLE who comment on this post will receive their very own personalized Supernatural drabble that somehow incorporates one or more of your listed "interests" from your profile page. I'll try my best to do more than the first five, but I definitely guarantee those drabbles.  You may also suggest one or two specific characters if you like!

Gimme a week, and you'll get your very own 100 words in your hot little hands!

There's a catch, though ... I'm asking that you write one back for me.  Come on, 100 words ... that's nothing.

[livejournal.com profile] bardicvoice  is doing a story for every year the Impala has been on the road, and she's off to a great start!
I know I won't be as faithful as she will be to the project, but here's my idea:
since I've wanted to pay tribute to the women of Supernatural, why not combine the task?
With grateful thanks to the Supernatural Wiki, for listing everyone and how they are spelled!  :P

So here is my first entry -- the Pilot:  Mary Winchester, Jessica Moore, and Constance Welch, and what they think of the Impala. :)

~*~

In the garish light of the quickstop, you feed sixteen gallons into the old girl. Rain falls down through the blackness.  All the dust has settled, washed down the gutters.

Back at the wheel, headlights, the swarp of the wipers, smell of old leather, mended and cleaned for forty years now. Pasted against the passenger glass, your brother is no less cordoned off asleep than when he is looking you right in the face.

Your stomach burns: too much caffeine, too much jerky; ache in the neck; grit between the teeth.

You pass through, drive through the storm, exhalation, release.

I came across this meme where you listen to tunes on shuffle and write a drabble for each tune while the tune plays. So I did it.

Until with #12 i BROKE MY OWN HEART.

#3-6 are crack and couldn't be helped.

My favorite is #12;  I was also pleased that Dust in the Wind, and Nick Cave's The Weeping Song came up --  yay!

Plus, if you've never heard The Cardigan's cover "Iron Man"  it is one of the best covers in the history of time!

Disclaimer:  oh how fun it is to play in the supernatural sandbox -- thanks for sharing -- I do not own these characters or situations.

12 Drabbles to follow -- Comments would be appreciated -- also any hint like how to crosspost for drabbles?spoilery only for general s4 info )

Well, apparently I joined Livejournal  and made my first post in November of 2007.
So it'll be fun to look back and see what I've come up with in just over a year!

Nov. 17, 2007:  my meta on my favorite Metallica songs and what Dean Winchester thinks of them.

Dec 14, 2007: my grouchy response when Dean couldn't sing Silent Night.

Jan 9, 2008:  short meta on Dean and Giftedness

Jan 10, 2008:  my first posted fic!!  a drabble:  Sam prays
(actually, it's a poem, but it is 100 words exactly)

Jan 18: ficlet (1300 words):  "Taking Care of Sammy"
Dean's pov during s3.  Brotherly love.

feb 11: my seven things meme that is actually seven interesting things about me

feb 13:  another Metallica meta

feb 13: my scholarly meta on Wincest and Romanticism  (so this is why I got a phd!)

feb 25:  my meta on Misogyny  (and this is what comes of my women's studies certificate!)

march 4: the fanfic my seven year old wrote!

mar 18: crack!poetry:  Thirteen Ways of Looking at Sam and Dean (with apologies to Wallace Stevens)

mar 19:  my soundtrack of the year:  Impala Rocks on!
I don't post songs on the internet, but any flisters who have requests for classic rock, email me at fannishliss at gmail dot com, and I will mail you a Cd with your choice of songs.

mar 24: an actual 7500 word FIC, "Who do you say that I am?"
Sammy is the demon messiah in this story -- alternate ending to s3

June 3: meta on Motherhood and Misogyny in "The Kids are All Right"
Hey, this meta kind of hangs together!  I like it!    I CAN haz mai wmst cert!

July 2:  4135 word FIC:  "At Usher's Well"  -- post s3 hiatus story.  Cursed objects can be your friend!

July 16:  my favorite fic of the year:  "where soul meets body"
another post s3 hiatus story.  This time Sam unlocks his power in a dream.

July 18:  short meta on fanfic and women's intellectual freedom

July 23: pondering Emmys, Acting, and Ackles

sep 13:  meta on RPS  in which I try to explain my constant tinhat squee

sep 18:  my supernatural x Devour crossover fic!!  I am SO PROUD of this story.
Set during s3 hiatus. 4200 words.  "Keep your head down, hold your tongue, break free"

oct 21: my wincon report.  Now I have such a huge grin on my face!

Nov 10: my ginormous meta on Angels in Hebrew and Christian scripture

Nov 18:  ficlet : "Incestuous" -- a Ruby Character Study.

nov 25: another fun ficlet by my 8 yr old

nov 29: my nightmare with bonus hellstorm

dec 18: my semi-bang, Dancers at the Lake, 12000 words!
I am pretty happy with this, if only people would read it!
It is highly theological in nature, and features Dean and Ruby.
It also has a Great Soundtrack!  Again, feel free to request the cd.
Originally conceived as a rewrite of the fairy tale, "The Twelve Dancing Princesses," which is one of my favorites.

SO THAT IS MY 2008 IN REVIEW.  A dozen cool metas on a variety of topics, plus NINE stories ranging from Drabble #1 to my 12000 words.  I'm pretty happy with this!

Thanks SO VERY MUCH to betas and to everyone who took the time to comment --
and thanks in general to the lovely internetz and the awesome SPN fandom -- you all rock!

My son brings home these lists of spelling words.  Sometimes they seem to suggest a story so powerfully I swear the second grade team must have a slash girl in their midst.  No kidding, these are the words for this week:

stream street speeding peaceful seashell deepest sunbeam pleasing leaves
coffee sneaking meaningful unreachable cleaning screaming kneel

I was telling my husband that these words seem to embody a pull between peace and tension.  He said many are gerunds -- so that might have to do with it.

If any one writes a story using all these words, I am sure no one will be sorry!  Ha, young Severus is pondering these words.

My drabble will be under the cut.  The first piece of fic that I've ever had the nerve to mount!  Well, it's just a drabble.

Sam prays...
