Just wanted to spread the word a little about a fun comm that I am taking part in.
It is called Who-at-50, and is celebrating the anniversary year with a fic marathon for writing a different Doctor each month. I'd love to see more people participate in writing stories about all the various incarnations of the Doctor! I love the thought of having a story about each different Doctor, even though I know I'm not going to do that well with some of them. :) If you have a prompt about any Doctor One through Seven, please let me know and I'll give it a shot. :)

Here are my stories for the marathon so far:
January, Eleven: "Mostly Fruit Juice" -- this story is from Jack's point of view while he is traveling with River and Eleven. It features an angsty Jack, a trip to a certain bar and an attempt to cheer Jack up. Not explicit.

February, Ten: "Someday We Kiss" -- this is a mini-adventure with Ten and Rose, from Ten's point of view, and is kind of sad. For general audiences.

March, Nine: "Properly Civilized" -- Rose catches a cold, and Jack takes care of her, which leads the Doctor to realize a few things. A bit sexy but not too explicit, it is a Jack/Nine/Rose story from Nine's point of view and ends happily for everyone. :)

April, Eight: "Fading Back from Black" -- this is a story from the point of view of Nine, from when Nine and Rose had that mini-row in the observation room in The End of the World, as Nine thinks about the question of who he is and where he's from. I think there is a great deal of continuity between Eight's tragic fate as a lover turned Destroyer, and Nine's recovery as he reimagines himself as capable of loving and living again.

For this story, I was partly inspired by storyboarding together several prompt photos from ttu challenge 005 — they come at the end of this piece. Once upon a time,

yumimum prompted: "How about Rose is sick and feeling sorry for herself, and the Doctor gets to live up to his name. Nice and fluffy." Also, the who_contest wanted stories about rivals. In this story there are three people, each of whom regards one of the others as a rival, until it all gets settled. A bit of pampering sick Rose, a bit of interpersonal conflict, OT3, and a portrait of Nine (for who@50) that leaves open the possibility for happy endings. And in celebration of the second anniversary of Bad_wolf_rising — such a wonderful community — you all are great!

Author's note: Part of the fun of Who@50 is trying to portray what makes the Doctor unique in each of his regenerations. Points I wanted to touch on here are Ten's uniqueness compared to other Time Lords, yet the way he dwells on and misses their society; the underlying complex of angst and hope in his character; his desire to show off for Rose in risky ways; and the certainty that he loved her but for some reason wouldn't act on it. The Last Words of Bad Wolf

miranda_askher wanted something about what The Bad Wolf says to the Doctor right before she faints. I went back and watched PotW very closely, and I saw, that yes, Rose's lips move right before she faints. Also, I saw what I'd never noticed before, which is that Rose completely dissolves into Vortex energy and is reassembled— which I can't believe isn't made a bigger deal in every single discussion of Rose and her ultimate fate.

This is an angsty canon-compliant exploration. If you'd like my happy ending AU take on this same set of events, read "Her Golden Fire."
