Heart’s Ease, or, Love in Idleness
4072 words
Ten/Rose
Explicit
Warnings: somnophilia, non-consensual (Rose is asleep)
Genre: sex pollen, sex or die (my two favorites!), PWP, happy endings!

Gift for [livejournal.com profile] develish1, who wanted a story inspired by a beautiful fanart where Rose is asleep and the Doctor kisses her awake.  This is my crazy, angsty, hard-core response. :)

Epigraph/Literary justification:
Yet mark’d I where the bolt of Cupid fell:
It fell upon a little western flower,
Before milk-white, now purple with love’s wound,
And maidens call it love-in-idleness. …
The juice of it on sleeping eyelids laid
Will make or man or woman madly dote
Upon the next live creature that it sees. —A Midsummer Night’s Dream, II.i.165-172

... um, I think I just demonstrated that William Shakespeare originated sex pollen??

Doctor Who Anniversary stories

stories! )
fannishliss: old motel sign says motel beer eat (Default)
yoinked from [livejournal.com profile] bleodswean

1. Your main fandom of the year?
I was more balanced between Doctor Who and Supernatural this year.  Also, I did consume a whole lot of Sherlock, both BBC Sherlock and Elementary, but I have yet to write anything more than that one SuperWhoLock about CumberLock and John.  :)  JLM just continues to impress.  :)

2. Your favourite film watched this year?
I enjoy the big blockbusters but it's usually smaller films that I love.  Top of my list for this year would Song for Marion, aka Unfinished Song, with With Terence Stamp, Gemma Arterton, Christopher Eccleston, Vanessa Redgrave.    I watched this movie for Chris, and he did not disappoint, but Terence Stamp won my heart with this amazing performance.  Just a stellar, beautiful movie.
Also great were:
Kinky Boots, the original movie with Chiwetel Ejiofor as Lola.    We saw this at the AFI Silver and it was so good.  I can't help but suspect it is probably better than the Broadway show? Nothing against Cyndi Lauper, but the songs used in the movie are all time classics like "What Lola Wants" and "These Boots are made for Walking" and "In these Shoes"  which really can't be beat. And Chiwetel Ejiofor is just such a fantastic actor.
Beginners, with Ewan McGregor and Christopher Plummer.  I think I actually saw this last year, but I love Ewan and he always does such good movies.
Another great movie was Wajda, a film about a young girl in Saudi Arabia who wants to win a bicycle, directed by first female Saudi film director, Haifaa Al Mansour. A very beautiful and complex movie, a look inside a society that is literally hidden from view.
Oh yes, and Joss Whedon's real triumph this year, Much Ado about Nothing, with the amazing Amy Acker as Beatrice, Alexis Denisoff as Benedick, and Agent Coulson (Clark Gregg) as Don Leonato.  Also Simon Tam  (Sean Maher) as Don John (nicely played) and Capn Mal as Dogberry.   Is it funny that I now think of Amy Acker primarily as a Supernatural alumna (she played Andrea Barr in SPN1.3, Dead in the Water) rather than as Fred/Illyria on Angel?

3. Your favourite book read this year?
Allie Brosh's book Hyperbole and a Half will probably end up being one of my favorite books EVER.  So happy she got it out there in book form.  If you are at all a fan of her blog, the book is even better.
I'm part of  a non-fiction by women book club.   We read a lot of fantastic books.  Three of my favorites this year were:
Wild:  From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail, by Cheryl Strayed.
The Red Leather Diary, by Lily Koppel, about a young woman living in New York City in the 1930s.
and Life List, a Woman's Quest for the World's Most Amazing Birds, by Olivia Gentile (a biography of Phoebe Snetsinger, who saw more than 8500 of the world's 10,000 bird species in her lifetime).

4. Your favourite TV show of the year?  Supernatural.  Fandom contribute so much to Sherlock and Who, but Supernatural gives and gives.  What a great show. I'm so proud to be a part of the whole Supernatural epoch in my little fannish way.

5. Your favourite online fandom community of the year?
all.  Fandom is fantastic. Sherlock fandom has so many great writers.  AO3 is bursting with material.   And the different iterations -- movie, ACD, BBC and Elementary, plus Grenada, all bring so much life to the Sherlock fandom.    With SPN, the cast and crew of the show seem almost to work hand in hand with fandom to deliver a superior product.  Despite persistent predictions that the show will get tired or old, for me it never does.  s9 is still rocking it!  And of course with Who, this year was the 50th Anniversary, so there was miching mallecho.  My OTP, Nine/Rose, didn't see a lot of action this year, but at least season 7.5 had some quality to it.

6. Your best new fandom discovery of the year?
I don't think I broke any new ground this year....

7. Your biggest fandom disappointment of the year?
Agents of Shield.  Work harder Joss!

 8. Your TV boyfriend of the year?
Jonny Lee Miller. His mannered and eccentric portrayal of Sherlock nonetheless feels very real to me.

9. Your TV girlfriend of the year?
Lucy Liu.  I have loved getting to know her as Watson.  She has really earned my respect over the course of a season and a half.

10. Your biggest squee moment of the year?
Return to Supernatural of Sheriff Jodie Miller.  Squeeee!

11. The most missed of your old fandoms?
Wouldn't you know it? I still crave Jim and Blair.  sigh!  (That's The Sentinel for any whippersnappers out there!)

12. The fandom you haven’t tried yet, but want to?
That's not me.  I don't crave fantoms in advance....

13. Your biggest fan anticipations for the New Year?
BBC Sherlock!  new ep ready to view, oh yeah!!!

Title: Housebond
author: [livejournal.com profile] fannishliss
pairing: The Doctor, his first wife, and his other first wife
rating: teen
length: 2256 words

summary: In the Gallifreyan backtime, the Doctor's first wife meets his other first wife.

author's note:
I saw a funny comic strip that listed Twelve Types of Doctor Who Fan. (Don't forget to mouseover!)  I happen to be ALL Twelve Types.  But I took exception to the description of the Fanfic Writer as being obsessed with self inserts.  So then I thought, Okay! Challenge Accepted.  For my One story, I'll write One/Tardis/Me.  This is that story.  I hope you'll enjoy!!   The Tardis is not actually humanoid in this story, nor are there any wolftaurs.  I actually don't think I managed self insert.  I'm not actually an Old Gallifreyan noblewoman!!  :P  But at least it's in the first person, and it's about One, and there is a One/Tardis/Me threeway, so I think it's a success.  Marc Platt compliant, yay!
This completes my who@50 fanficathon.  What larks!
PS, I went to select an icon for this story, and found my Young Chris Icon.  I can dream.  :)
PPS.  There is kind of a meta about Gallifreyan Sexuality at the end of this story. As the day went by, I started thinking that people might be interested in why this story is the way it is.  It is by no means random, but is based on the way I read various bits of canon.  If you are not afraid, read on!

OMG FLAIL THE NEW DOCTOR WHO MINI EP BEST THING EVER FLAIL FLAIL.
Moffat has surpassed himself by SO MUCH in this mini-ep. I tear up just thinking about it!!!!!
I have tickets for the anniversary show in just over one week.  WOW.  Am looking forward to it!!!!

also have you seen this mouse try to get a big cracker over the ledge?

I passed 25,000 words on my Nano and it is indeed Nov. 15! I get up at 6 when my husband leaves the house and write until 7:30 when my son needs to get up.  During that time I can write about 1500 words unless I am distracted by RESEARCH.  I am having a good time with my Nano, but it will need ALL THE EDITING. Anyway, it is indeed flowing.  It's basically the novel I've been not writing since I was about 19.  :) Once I get it out, I will be free to write other, more interesting novels. :)   I had the sinking feeling yesterday that Penny Arcade scooped me.  But, even though my novel is partly about the Tithe, that's only the beginning of the story. It has been a plot device since Midsummer Night's Dream after all!  There are so many books about the Fae, but this is MY book about the Fae. I am also not writing the ballad of Tam Lin, yay.  :D  It's very interesting to me that I am addicted to fanfiction (really)  but right now the story I most want to read is the one I am writing.  That's good I guess!

Did you guys know Allie Brosh's book is out at last? Christmas present!!!
also she was interviewed by Terry Gross on Fresh Air

Who is watching Elementary?  The new eps about Mycroft are very interesting, are they not?
JLM has been one of my Adored British Movie Stars since Trainspotting and Plunkett and Macleane, but I am so loving him as Sherlock.  And wow, I am really loving Joan, though I still think they have made a few missteps.  A friend reassures me that some surgeons really do get to know their patients... so I guess it is at least plausible.  The guy who plays Mycroft is perfectly cast to be JLM's brother.   I'm aware that Rhys Ifans is famous, but I haven't actually seen him in anything.  He is doing wonderfully.  We'll see if they can continue to develop Sherlock's relationship with Gregson and Bell.

I am participating in who@50, a celebration of the fiftieth anniversary where every month we write a story about one of the Doctor's incarnations, counting back from Eleven.

My stories for the Who-at-50 ficathon:
January, Eleven: "Mostly Fruit Juice-- this story is from Jack's point of view while he is traveling with River and Eleven.  It features an angsty Jack, a trip to a certain bar and an attempt to cheer Jack up.  Teen.
February, Ten: "Someday We Kiss" -- this is a mini-adventure with Ten and Rose, from Ten's point of view, and is kind of sad. For general audiences.
March, Nine: "Properly Civilized" -- Rose catches a cold, and Jack takes care of her, which leads the Doctor to realize a few things.  A Jack/Nine/Rose story from Nine's point of view and ends happily for everyone.  :)  A bit sexy but not too explicit.
April, Eight: "Fading Back from Black" -- this is a story from the point of view of Nine, from when Nine and Rose had that mini-row in the observation room in The End of the World, as Nine thinks about the question of who he is and where he's from.  I think there is a great deal of continuity between Eight's tragic fate as a lover turned Destroyer, and Nine's recovery as he reimagines himself as capable of loving and living again.  General audiences.
May, Seven: "A Routine Tech Bust" --Jack breaks into the offices of A Charitable Earth and finds more than he was looking for. A study of the Seventh Doctor, reflected in the life and opinions of his protégé, Dorothy McShane. General audiences.
June, Six: "Revel with the Queen" -- the Doctor finally catches up with Peri on Krontep. This story is about the Sixth Doctor, but told from the point of view of Eight and Peri. General audiences.
July, Five: "Doctor -- No! or, Diamonds aren't for Everyone" -- Peri and the Doctor have to blend in to save the world. General audiences.
August, Four: "Always the Fire" -- Romana is trapped behind the Time Lock and thinks about the Doctor. General audiences.
September, Three: "Champagne and Memories" -- Three resents the Time Lords for wiping the memories of Jamie and Zoe, and he takes measures to prevent that from happening to Jo. Mature.
October, Two: "Finding the Doctor" --  Rose finds the Doctor, just not the one she is looking for. General audiences.
ONE: "Housebond" --  in the Gallifreyan backtime, the Doctor's first wife meets the Doctor's other wife.  Teen.

How excited am I to start my Nano this year!!!
I've been plotting it out!  I have a villain!  places to go, things to do!! a soundtrack!
...VERY EXCITED.

Today I went to Staples and they sell rubber bracelets for you to keep an 8 gig thumb drive in (PNY brand).  You can also buy these for $20 direct from NaNoWriMo, but I didn't.....  so anyway I got the thumb drive and plan on wearing it all month.  I have it on RIGHT NOW.  :)

I hope I will also have time to write for SPN because I have ALL THE FEELS about Dorothy, Charlie and their adventure in the Faerie Lands (Oz is only one of the faerie lands, in case you've never read the books!)  Ha, I smell a Big Bang for the first time ever -- friends who know when the gen big bang comes around you'll have to let me know!  That's Ozma in my new icon.

HOW AWESOME is our show, that we have freaking DOROTHY GALE and it is not only COMPLETELY PLAUSIBLE, but actually enhances the world of Show!!!  :D  My League of Extraordinary Gentlemen graphic novels are to my immediate left as I sit here typing.  Alan Moore would totally love SPN right now.   :D

Also I have my Doctor Who anniversary show movie theatre tickets! We went last night as The Master (Delgado/Ainsley style), the Rani, and their Evil Tardis.  Watching my son stagger about in his black cardboard box was about the funniest thing ever.  So much fun.  People really enjoyed it.  Many more people know who Doctor Who is than a couple years ago when I was Ten, son was K9, and husband was Sexy (he is always sexy, but the blue Tardis hoodie was pretty awesome).    I have to write about One and then I'll have a complete set of stories for each Doctor!

Okay, so I'm getting my real life work done this morning. Then the afternoon belongs to my novel!!
Tomorrow I'm working from 10 am - 10 pm, argh, life in the Arts.  :P
Sunday, I should by done with work by 2 pm or so.  So my word count needs to be at 6000 by Sunday night.
I CAN DO IT.  I WILL DO IT!!!!

cheers!

This story is written for the who@50 fanworkathon-athon: the month of September focusing on the Third Doctor.   This story has been proofread by my good husband, but not britpicked or beta'd for canon compliance -- some Notes are at the end.  If you have any questions I'll do my best to answer you!  All comments eagerly craved.

=====Read the story! )

Notes: If you're not familiar with Jo, she is great!  Look up Jo Grant on wikipedia to start with.
Also note, I've taken liberties with chronology here, as Jo meets the Master and is hypnotised by him much later rather than right away (in Terror of the Autons).  The  young scientist whom Jo marries is Cliff Jones, whom she meets in her last episode, the Green Death. See Jo and the Doctor bid farewell on youtube.    I usually do stick with canon chronology, but the Master's attempts to mess with Jo needed to be later for the purposes of my story.

My flist haven't been super posty recently, but if you are reading this, I am saying HI TO YOU!!

Tonight is my CD Release Party. Of course I was in bed all day yesterday with a STUPID COLD and so I don't know if my voice will hold out for a two hour show tonight, but hey, I'll do my best!  PM me  if you'd like the url to my album, which is under my real name.

We finally watched Captain America: The First Avenger.  It was pretty good!  I still wonder what it would have been like with Jensen Ackles as Steve.

We went to see The World's End, the movie with Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Martin BAFTA Freeman and several others.  It was good.  Simon Pegg did a great job with his character, and Martin really went for it!  Plus Nick Frost was really great.  There is a twist I totally didn't expect.  It threw me a little, but my husband and friends were 100% positive.  :)

I have a Three/Jo fic up my sleeve for September.

I found out that a couple of my fics on AO3 are in the top 100 for the pairing by Kudos.  That is pretty exciting for me, really.  I am spending most of my fannish energy over on AO3, mostly reading Sherlock stories.  But I'd love to see a return to LJ.  Say Hi if you read this!

I spent yesterday sick in bed reading an awesome Who story on AO3 called Closed by [livejournal.com profile] who_in_whoville.  It is long and satisfying.  If you love Rose, read it!  It is a crossover with Broadchurch, featuring Rose meeting up with DI Alec Hardy in Pete's World, and seems pretty spoilery for Broadchurch, if you are afraid of that sort of thing.

Also I really liked a story by an author new to me called RishiDiams. The Space Between, it is Ten/Rose (but   in my head it was Nine/Rose)  f*k or die, with brilliant aftermaths, and it is a really well done 25k story!  The thing about it is how deeply the author gets inside the Doctor's head to understand his point of view, his various hangups, his powers as a Time Lord, and the depth of his feelings for Rose and everything he's willing to sacrifice for her.  Such a good story. Because it's so perceptive as to who the Doctor IS, for me it reads as Nine, because Nine is My Doctor.

Okay I've got to go revise my set list for sore throatedness.  Cross fingers for me!

For who@50 this month we are meant to contemplate Four.  This story is from Romana's point of view as she remembers him, as well as other incarnations of the Doctor, probably mostly Seven, Eight, and a tantalizing glimpse of Ten.

Please let me know if you have any questions, comments, or concrit.  You may pm if you wish!  The fate of Romana and of Gallifrey is fairly complicated, so l'd love your thoughts on whether I've mucked it up!!
