Day 5 - Recommend a fannish or creative resources.
I realized I have a resource to recommend!
Rise Up Singing and Rise Again are two really great folksong source books. They are a great place to learn new folksongs. Each book contains the lyrics and chords for 1200 beloved songs, along with notes on sources for listening. They also have an online presence now. Here is an example of the song Across the Universe by the Beatles.

Day 6 - Leave feedback for a fanwork.
I make this a habit! :)
Day 7 - Create a love meme for yourself.
Okay - if anyone would like to leave love for me, that would be very nice! :D
Day 8 - Share a favorite piece of original canon.
I really love that Leverage gave us a canon OT3. When Eliot says "Till my dyin day," I don't really see how else you could possibly interpret it. Here is a favorite fanvid for the ot3 by thingswithwings, and it is so good! to the song Parachute by Ingrid Michaelson.
I also love that Jim and Blair on the Sentinel have canon spirit animals that merge onscreen. In the 90s no less!!
The vid is a fun song vid with a lot of Blair dancing. The vid ends with a lot of explosions which is true to the show! The spirit animals merge at minute 1:07 in the vid. :D
One piece of canon that I think has been overlooked regarding Iron Fist season one, is that there are so many important women characters. For every man (Ward and Harold Meachum) there is a woman of equal or greater importance (Joy and Madame Gao). Danny has not just Colleen, but also Claire and Jeri Hogarth as allies. (He calls Hogarth J-Money!!) When Danny needs help (which he needs a LOT), he turns to his most trusted advisors -- all women. I also think it's really important to note that if you went to Iron Fist looking for an Asian martial arts master, you should not overlook Colleen Wing. Also, Colleen puts Claire in training for self defense!! So many great moments in the Iron Fist. Also I think Madame Gao was much more interesting and nuanced in Iron Fist than in Daredevil (and I liked her a lot more than Sigourney Weaver's character in Defenders). I could talk all day about Iron Fist, but suffice it to say, I really liked the show and a lot of that was down to the amazing women characters.
EDIT: Post Golden Globes, I read an article about the lack of women writers and directors being recognized at the awards. So I wanted to go back and check on that in the imdb credits for Iron Fist. From Imdb, I find several directors and writers named for the series who are women, including directors Uta Briesewitz, Deborah Chow, and Jet Wilkinson, and writers including Tamara Becher and Cristine Chambers. For what it's worth. :)

>> One piece of canon that I think has been overlooked regarding Iron Fist season one, is that there are so many important women characters. <<
I just couldn't get into that show, because Danny is supposed to be a martial arts master but his control sucks. My suspension of disbelief chewed through the straps and ran screaming into the night. However, I agree about the female characters.
>> I also think it's really important to note that if you went to Iron Fist looking for an Asian martial arts master, you should not overlook Colleen Wing. <<
Agreed.
>> Also, Colleen puts Claire in training for self defense!! <<
Well, Claire needs it, consider who she hangs out with. If it'd been me, though, I would've hauled in an anatomy dummy and said, "Okay, remember your medical training? All the places that if someone comes in with things sticking out of them, you really worry? Find them on here." .... "Now, self-defense is basically just sticking things in those places, or hitting them. Let's practice that."
This is why it is a very bad idea to mess with medics. Anyone who knows how to put you back together, knows how to take you apart. Most of them won't, but you don't dare count on your opponent being squeamish.
>> Also I think Madame Gao was much more interesting and nuanced in Iron Fist than in Daredevil (and I liked her a lot more than Sigourney Weaver's character in Defenders). <<
I like Madame Gao in both, but she got more development in Defenders, where she reminded me of Yoda. An evil Yoda with boobs, but she really had that little old spitfire thing going.
Re: Yes ...
Date: 2018-01-09 01:25 am (UTC)I think Danny's training was terribly negligent. Sure, he has the Iron Fist, but what else does he have? Nothing. I guess I kind of love him BECAUSE his control is non-existent -- and yet Shou Lao gave him the power anyway. I mean, even Bakuto knows more about what Danny should be able to do than the monks of K'un-Lun bothered to teach him.
I liked Claire's Claws. I wonder if Trish will come and want Claw lessons (Trish becomes Hellcat in the comics).
Re: Yes ...
Date: 2018-01-09 04:19 am (UTC)Exactly. Danny's power is too limited, and I wouldn't be surprised if that has to do with his temper. Hell, maybe they just picked half-useless door wardens because a one-trick pony is a lot easier to use than someone with the complexity of Madame Gao.

Yeah, it's like they only taught him the bare minimum. I've seen someone do the throwing-people-across-the-room trick, with just a light touch. But he had impressive control.

I haven't read the comics, but it sounds cool.
