day 13 Set Some Goals -- I mistakenly did this back on day 3.  :P

day 14 Issue a challenge!  I wanted to issue a valentines challenge, and then, lo and behold, I found a valentines challenge to join in!  yay!!

day 15 love letter to fandom.

Dear Fandom,
Somehow, I was born a fan. Like a Lady Gaga song: I was born this way!  And because of that, for a really long time, I was WEIRD. I spent my whole childhood and much of my adolescence being WEIRD.  But eventually I found other fans and we found mutual fandoms.  Then in the mid 90s the internet happened.  Those of you who have always had the internet can't imagine what a big deal this was to us.  Suddenly, slash (which had been around for a really long time) became a thing you could subscribe to (hello Mulder/Krycek!!) and dive into (yowza 852 Prospect!!) and actually Live In, from day to day (woot woot LJ!!!). Fandom has given me the freedom to enjoy my own tastes and to revel in them, because somewhere, out there, are other fans like me who LOVE IT.   The squee heard round the world is my squee.  Thank you fandom!!  for the joy, the wild creativity, the love, the weird and the wonder of it all.  Ladies, you make my world go round!  :)

in other news, Ursula K LeGuin died yesterday at the age of 88.  What a life well-lived.

And, here is a good article about the Tick.

Here is a Leverage fic I created for summerstorm.dreamwidth.org .  It stars Tara and Parker with a little bit of spark between the two of them, and is endgame OT3, Parker/Hardison/Eliot, but is rated PG.

=====

“You look great tonight,” Tara said to Parker, looking her right in the eyes.

Parker resisted the urge to look herself up and down. She was wearing black tights, of course, her favorite pair of low heeled black boots because of their excellent tread and water repellent qualities, and a black top. Okay, the top was maybe one that Sophie had picked out for her saying something like “feminine blah blah blah shoulders blah a little cleavage you know works wonders, Parker.”

Parker squinted suspiciously at Tara. “Thank you?” She tried not to upspeak but it was so confusing to have a grifter who was kind of on the team, kind of not on the team, and who was definitely not Sophie even though Sophie had promised Parker that she, Sophie, was not actually dead (usually people who were buried were dead but not, Parker had to admit, always), and that she, Tara, was a good friend of Sophie’s and that she, Parker, could trust her (Tara).

Tara continued to smile warmly with a bit too little blinking, and Parker continued to squint.

trope, cliché, kink, motif, or theme

My number one trope or motif is psychic connection.  I love when two characters can understand each other on a psychic or spiritual level.  I write psychic connection stories very consistently across fandoms.  Probably I should tag for it more. :P

My very favorite aspect of kink is the basic kinky power dynamic--- one person takes control while the other submits.  All the kinks, for me, are essentially ways to get inside the other person's defenses, to open them up and let them free.  See above about the psychic connections and below about the redemption.  :D . If you are curious about kink, see my Kink List challenge on AO3 where I have challenged myself to WRITE ALL THE KINKS.  I was trying to go in ABC order, and kind of ran into a wall, so if you'd like to poke me about anything, please do.

My ultimate theme is redemption.  I believe we are all prone to fucking shit up but I also believe that we are capable of forgiveness and growing past our mistakes. Thus the long line of tormented warriors in my fannish dreamscape, ie. Dean Winchester, Bucky Barnes, the Doctor in his post Time War aspect... and now Eliot Spencer.  Oh Krycek, I am sure no one ever shot you in the head, that was a double I'm sure.

My favorite cliche of all time:
"It's easier to pull the trigger than to play guitar -- easier to destroy than to create." -- El Mariachi in Desperado.  Something so true and yet so cliche in this.... but I can't stop watching action films like ballet (John Wick anyone?) even though Atomic Blonde gave me very unsettling nightmares that my chihuahua was taking on bad raccoons way out of her weight class.  :(  Another version of this cliche is when, when Kwai Chang Caine would stroll barefoot into town with his bamboo flute strapped to his back, and say "I do not wish to fight" and then bad guys would end up flying in slo mo and hitting the ground in big clouds of dust.  The wider culture took away the term "grasshopper" and I took away "I really need to know how to play the bamboo flute" as though that were the key to knowing all the Kung Fu.  (It was one of my earliest fandoms, along with Kolchak the Nightstalker and the Six Million Dollar Man.)  I guess it's really more of a catch-22 than a cliche though, when my beloved tormented warriors do not wish to fight, but are really, really good at it  (see Redemption, above).   If anyone has not seen "The Quick and The Dead" I recommend it.  Interesting how Russell Crowe isn't even mentioned in that trailer! while to me he is a very central character....

This is a very thought-provoking question and I'm going to have to come back later even though this tab has been open all night as it is. :)

I actually love self reccing, so here is a little breakdown of some of my work.

1.  My one piece that I would love more readers and feedback for is my psychic powers Avengers AU, Therapy. I put this first because I truly crave readers for it.   In it, Steve is a super soldier who is thawed out after a big all-out war against Hydra.   His "therapist" is Natasha, who was given powerful psychic powers by Hydra.  The story considers the parallels between the serum given to super soldiers vs that given to Hydran agents, the importance of agency, and how one recovers after fighting in a war.  The story features some polyamory but the endgame is Bucky/Steve.   Bookmark and read later!

1.5.  Another Steve/Bucky story that I really love is Longing, in which Steve and Wanda help dismantle Bucky's trigger words.  Canon-compliant.

2.  I love to take pictures of my Steve and Bucky action figures.  One of my top favorites is called Moonlight Serenade in celebration of Moon Day. The series name is Bucky and Steve: Relaxation Figures.  I would love subscribers and prompts for action!Bucky and Steve, as well as for my other MCU action figures.  :)

2.5.  I also have a kink project, that is, to write stories that incorporate kinks in a way that is as valid as I can make it.  My favorite is probably for "caged and confined" The Madman, a Steve/Bucky AU that takes place in Cleveland in the 1930s, and incorporates true facts from the horrifying Murders that happened there, with Eliot Ness in charge of the investigation. At 54K, you can Bookmark for later!  or, browse my other kink list inspired stories, which have been pretty well received as my stories go.

3.  My biggest project for SPN was my Women of Supernatural project.  In it, I tried to give each woman character a voice and a backstory.  I pretty much got through the first three seasons before I bogged down.  However if anyone has a woman character they would like to see a story for, I am up for rewatching old eps and trying to write for any woman character (including female monsters, named or unnamed).  My top favorite in the Women of Supernatural project was The Promise post s5 series, in which Dean goes to live with Lisa Braeden and things turn out quite differently than they did in canon.  I just want Dean to be happy, is that SO WRONG??  That's what Castiel said!!

4.  I also have a lot of Doctor Who stories, especially featuring the Ninth Doctor, Rose, and/or Jack. Plus, I celebrated the 50th anniversary by writing for each and every Doctor!!  :)   A lot of my work features psychic  or spiritual intermingling... and I think my Doctor Who work is especially like that.  I guess a favorite would be ... Always the Fire, which is about Romana behind the time lock.  My whoishness is very much informed by classic Who, including some of the novels, particularly Lungbarrow.  :)

As always, I love prompts and will try my best to write for you if you have a burning desire....

Day 5 - Recommend a fannish or creative resources.
I realized I have a resource to recommend!
Rise Up Singing and Rise Again are two really great folksong source books.  They are a great place to learn new folksongs. Each book contains the lyrics and chords for 1200 beloved songs, along with notes on sources for listening. They also have an online presence now.  Here is an example of the song Across the Universe by the Beatles.
https://www.riseupandsing.org/songs/across-universe

Day 6 - Leave feedback for a fanwork.
I make this a habit!  :)

Day 7 - Create a love meme for yourself.
Okay - if anyone would like to leave love for me, that would be very nice!  :D

Day 8 - Share a favorite piece of original canon.

I really love that Leverage gave us a canon OT3.  When Eliot says "Till my dyin day," I don't really see how else you could possibly interpret it. Here is a favorite fanvid for the ot3 by thingswithwings, and it is so good! to the song Parachute by Ingrid Michaelson.

I also love that Jim and Blair on the Sentinel have canon spirit animals that merge onscreen.  In the 90s no less!!
The vid is a fun song vid with a lot of Blair dancing.  The vid ends with a lot of explosions which is true to the show! The spirit animals merge at minute 1:07 in the vid.  :D

One piece of canon that I think has been overlooked regarding Iron Fist season one, is that there are so many important women characters.  For every man (Ward and Harold Meachum) there is a woman of equal or greater importance (Joy and Madame Gao). Danny has not just Colleen, but also Claire and Jeri Hogarth as allies.  (He calls Hogarth J-Money!!)   When Danny needs help (which he needs a LOT), he turns to his most trusted advisors -- all women.  I also think it's really important to note that if you went to Iron Fist looking for an Asian martial arts master, you should not overlook Colleen Wing.  Also, Colleen puts Claire in training for self defense!!  So many great moments in the Iron Fist.  Also I think Madame Gao was much more interesting and nuanced in Iron Fist than in Daredevil (and I liked her a lot more than Sigourney Weaver's character in Defenders). I could talk all day about Iron Fist, but suffice it to say, I really liked the show and a lot of that was down to the amazing women characters.

EDIT: Post Golden Globes, I read an article about the lack of women writers and directors being recognized at the awards.  So I wanted to go back and check on that in the imdb credits for Iron Fist.  From Imdb, I find several directors and writers named for the series who are women, including directors Uta Briesewitz, Deborah Chow, and Jet Wilkinson, and writers including Tamara Becher and Cristine Chambers. For what it's worth.  :)

I wasn't sure I had a wishlist, but I actually do!!!!

#1: I collect 3.75" action figures of the folks in the MCU.  What I want most are two that don't exist: Peggy Carter and Foggy Nelson.  I would also love to have Karen Page, Claire Temple, and Colleen Wing.  If you know of anyone who mods figures or who would make any of them for me, I would be so grateful!!  I would also love any form of doll, felt, paper or otherwise, that is in the right dimensions to go along with my MCU 3.75" figures.   Funko are too large for my purposes.... but I do like Dorbz!

#2: I would love any of Christian Kane's albums from prior to The House Rules.  I am primarily listening to him on youtube, but I prefer actual CDs. Anyone out there who wants to give me their Kane album? (I doubt it, but it could happen!)

#3: a Tardis key?

THINGS I AM OFFERING:
Perhaps you will see this wishlist and want something I might be able to make for you
1.  Photoshoot of your favorite MCU characters getting up to Hijinks?  Represented by my cast of 3.75" figures.  Also, I have a few extra figures from an Ebay lot I needed to buy... so let me know if you need a specific figure (especially of Cap!)
2. Original song -- based on your story or scenario
3. Postcard from SPN characters
4. Fic, especially Steve/Bucky, Eliot/Parker/Hardison, Matt/Foggy, Danny/Colleen.
5.  Valentine -- a pretty collage customized to your tastes and interests
6.  Jewelry -- especially earrings or bracelets in your custom theme.
7.  Mix CD (old school, actual CD)  based on your theme.

Sorry there will be no entry for Snowflake 5, because I can't think of any resources. :P

Here are some recs I hope you will enjoy.

#1. I want to rec [livejournal.com profile] milly_gal for her amazing jewelry.  Milly made me pendants both for Bucky and Steve, and for Team Free Will, Sam Dean and Castiel.  Plus she made them so the individual pendants can be worn separately or all together. She has an Etsy, but you can also just contact her with a request.  :)

#2.  I love the continuing series, the adventures of Tiny Loki and Thor (and friends) by 100indecisions on AO3.
I myself have action figures who go everywhere with me, but she does it so well, with such fun pix and great dialogue.

#3.   Sing Me the Alphabet by thesardine.  One of my top favorite stories ever because of the very quirky and interesting Bucky.

I dare you to read it and not want to immediately begin labelling things with an old fashioned tape labeller, and making shrinkydinks.  You will.

#4.  A work in progress where Parker and Spencer have a slow burn. Excellent characterization and pacing.  I'm enjoying it!

My best fan memories are real life meetups.    Nothing beats meeting face to face with fannish friends and enjoying real life company.
helping [livejournal.com profile] azephirin pack for a big move!
being hosted by [livejournal.com profile] milly_gal and [livejournal.com profile] alexisjane!
rooming with [livejournal.com profile] desertport at wincon!
== treasured memories that have made a place in my heart.

Today in honor of real life friendships, founded in fandom, I'll be wearing some beautiful fannish jewelry fashioned by the ever artful and creative [livejournal.com profile] milly_gal!

If you are my fannish friend, and you are in the DC area, please don't hesitate to surf my couch or at least meet up to have coffee or catch a movie!

Very simply, I want to be more a part of fandom again.  I gave facebook a chance in 2017 but it just doesn't do it for me. Livejournal (and/or Dreamwidth) are so much nicer in terms of forming communities.  I really want to be part of fannish community again.  I also want to post things and have people actually respond.  I've gotten a lot of joy from AO3 but it is so important to me to have real friends across the internet.

I joined LJ on Nov 8, 2007... ten years later, I feel like today is a good day to be more fannish on the internet!
